Bring on the eggplant, bananas, turnips, and spinach. Don't forget the oranges, mushrooms, kale, and kiwis. Go for the garlic, tomatoes, apples, and berries. It's time for all of us to understand a national health campaign called, Fruits and Veggies ~ More Matters. All Americans are urged to eat plenty of fruits and vegetables every day. So, to do this, it makes sense to look for fruits and vegetables all around the supermarket.
Finding fruits and vegetables all around the supermarket is easy. Look for fresh, canned, dried and frozen items. Then, put them to work:
Eat one fresh or canned fruit with breakfast every morning
Keep a fresh fruit bowl on the kitchen counter for snacking
Make a point of adding new and interesting fresh and canned vegetables to your shopping list
Carry a pouch of dried fruits along on your picnic, car trip, or to the beach
Stock up on frozen vegetables and then cook one or two with dinner
Cook homemade soup with fresh, canned and frozen vegetables on a rainy day
Create a homemade, cold fruit soup by blending fresh or frozen berries and then folding in vanilla yogurt.
Years of research have shown that individuals can lower their chances of suffering from serious, chronic diseases such as diabetes, heart disease, hypertension, and cancer simply by consuming fruits and vegetables on a regular basis. These science-based findings are a good argument for all of us to 'bulk up' on the colorful produce that greets us as we enter the supermarket. The payoff in terms of our health is really worth it.
