Lowes Foods and Sanderson Farms Partner for Holiday Chicken Donation to The Second Harvest Food Bank of Northwest, NC

Winston-Salem, NC – Novemeber 27, 2012 –Thursday, November 29th Sanderson Farms will donate 7,560 whole chicken fryers to The Second Harvest Food Bank in partnership with Lowes Foods’ Friends Feeding Friends Annual Holiday Food Drive.
This donation will be delivered to Food Bank Partner Agencies in  North Carolina, South Carolina, and Virginia. Since 1995, Lowes Foods has collected over 17 million pounds of food.  Lowes Foods has a current goal of raising  one million pounds of food during the 2012 calendar year.  To date, Lowes Foods, with vendor and customer support, has raised over 445,000 pounds – almost halfway there!
These donations will be delivered to local food bank agencies in the areas where they are collected. Friends Feeding Friends is the largest food drive in North Carolina, and 2012 marks the 18th year Lowes Foods stores have collected donations.  Customers may purchase pre-made bags of non-perishable items most needed in the food banks in any Lowes Foods store.  Donation bins are located in each store as well for quick and easy drop off.  Customers may also choose to donate cash at the register in increments of $1.00, $3.00 and $5.00 coupons.
Businesses, local schools and civic groups are also involved in the donation efforts, raising awareness of the growing problem of hunger across the country.  Local schools that partner with Lowes Foods donation efforts have the opportunity to earn Campbell’s Labels for Education for their school.
