Lowes Foods Friends Feeding Friends annual food drive just began on November 2 this year and is already making some gains on the fight against hunger. In the two weeks since the food drive began, Lowes Foods has received over 39,500 pounds in donations through the support of the communities in which it serves. The goal this year is to collect over 600,000 pounds of food, or 504,000 meals, for food banks across North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia by December 31.

As one of the largest contributors to the food banks in this area, Lowes Foods is continually searching for new ways to make it easy and fun to donate each year. When this year’s goal is attained, Lowes Foods will have provided over 6,000 families of four three nutritious meals a day for seven days.

This year, to make donations even easier, Lowes Foods has launched a Facebook campaign to help raise awareness of the food drive. For each new “like” that the Lowes Foods’ and Just $ave Foods’ Facebook pages receive, they will donate 1 meal to the campaign. Lowes Foods has pledged to donate up to 1,000 meals for each new “like” on both pages.

Lowes Foods has also partnered with Sunrise Broadcasting again for their seventh annual 24-hour food drive in Wilmington, North Carolina. Stations from Sunrise Broadcasting, including Z 107.5, Sunny 104.5, Jammin 99.9, and Surf 98.3 will be on site broadcasting live at Lowes Foods on South College Road from Noon on Friday November 18 through Noon on Saturday November 19. The goal of this event is to collect 24,000 meals in the 24 hour period.

Customers may purchase pre-made bags of non-perishable items most needed in the food banks in any Lowes Foods or Just $ave Foods store. Donation bins are located at the front of each store for quick and easy drop off. Customers may also choose to donate cash at the register in increments of $1.00, $3.00 and $5.00 amounts.
