Lowes Foods Thankful to Partners and Communities for a Very Successful 2012 Bag Childhood Hunger Campaign -- Winston-Salem, NC - August 21, 2012

Did you know that 1 in 4 children in the Carolinas are living in poverty and are at risk of going hungry? When school is not in session, many of these children go without food. 51% of the year, 185 days, school is not in session and these low-income children are without access to the free or reduced priced meals they receive during the school year.

This year our Bag Childhood Hunger campaign would not have been successful without the dedicated efforts of our employees, generous customers and community partners. During the months of June and July we collectively brought in just over 143,000 pounds of food making this campaign the second largest food drive in the state of North Carolina. Second only to our own Friends Feeding Friends food drive which we have in November and December. These outstanding results helped benefit children in many of our communities who are at risk of going hungry. We far surpassed all of last year's numbers.

Many thanks to all of our media partners throughout all of our service areas, for the outstanding media coverage and live broadcasting. To Pepsi Bottling Venture, Kraft Foods, Coca-Cola, and Gallo Wine for their generous contributions. We are thankful to Allegacy Federal Credit Union and their customers for collecting food and donations. We are very grateful to our stores for keeping their display of bags well stocked and for the engagement of all employees for their outstanding commitment to this worthwhile cause.

Between this food drive and the others that we hold during the year, we have put out the challenge to raise 1 million pounds of food in 2012. With our upcoming Friends Feeding Friends food drive we feel confident we will attain that goal.

The Food Banks that we serve are very appreciative of our efforts and know that all of this food and the cash donations will go to great use and stay within the local communities in which they were received.
