Lowes Foods is proud to announce that they are sponsoring the Live Healthy Greenville-Pitt 100-Day Challenge. This is a community wide wellness program during which participants will team up to work together and track weight loss and physical activity. The goal of the program is to engage co-workers, friends and family to become more active and become conscious of the lifestyle decisions they make on a daily basis. Since the 100-Day Challenge started in 2009, more than 3,000 participants have lost more than 13,000 pounds and recorded more than 140,000 hours of activity!

The Live Healthy Greenville-Pitt 100-Day Challenge will take place from January 23, 2012 through May 1, 2012. Lowes Foods will host a kick off event at the Lowes Foods store at 3160 Evans Street in Greenville, NC, that will take place on January 23, 2012, from 4-6 pm. Radio Station 107.9 WNCT will be broadcasting live on remote from the store.

Representatives from the Greenville-Pitt Chamber of Commerce along with corporate partners from ECU Physicians, Physicians East, University Health Systems, and Communities Putting Prevention to Work (CPPW) will be onsite at the kick off to promote community registration and provide information about the challenge.

Lowes Foods is dedicated to helping people choose healthier foods to better their overall health and lifestyles through programs such as the Be A Smart Shopper program and NuVal Nutritional Scoring System. Nutrition has been an emphasis for Lowes Foods for a long time and the Be A Smart Shopper program just recently celebrated its 15th year of participation. The Be A Smart Shopper program uses the Lowes Foods stores as a classroom that is guided by tour leaders who are able to encourage healthy eating habits and prevent childhood obesity to young school aged children. The NuVal program places a nutritional value, between 1 and 100, on products throughout our stores allowing people to compare foods at a glance and make healthier choices while shopping. Lowes Foods is also dedicated to healthy meal planning solutions which are provided by our corporate Nutritionist, Cindy Silver.
