FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
The School Nutrition Association of North Carolina (SNA-NC) awarded the Child Nutrition and Public Relations Departments of New Hanover County Schools the “Lunch Bell Award” at the June 23, 2011, SNA-NC annual conference in Greensboro, NC. Lowes Foods partnered with the New Hanover County Schools TV Studio to produce On the Menu, a 30-minute program which aired on The Learning Network, educating the community on healthy eating habits.
The Lunch Bell Award for Radio and Television recognizes outstanding service in interpretation of nutrition education and school fund services. It also recognizes the tremendous impact news media has on public awareness for nutrition education. The SNA-NC presents this award to Child Nutrition programs and public schools based on their ability to inform their community on the benefits of good nutrition.
The award-winning program can be viewed on the NHCS website at www.nhcs.net and http://tln.pegcentral.com/. Lowes Foods also provides other nutritional education programs, such as Be a Smart Shopper, in which school groups can visit a Lowes Foods store and tour the facilities while learning about proper nutrition. More information on this and other programs can be found on the Lowes Foods website.
