Lowes Foods Opening New Hickory Location -- Winston-Salem, NC - August 16, 2010
Lowes Foods Logo

This Wednesday, August 18, 2010 Lowes Foods will open the doors on a new grocery store that is unlike any they have built before. The new Lowes Foods store, located at 260 14th Ave. NE in Hickory, will be the most customer and environmentally friendly building created by the company, and it will have a totally new design as well as additions to the traditional fresh departments. The new location will also be home to a fuel station where customers can earn dollars off their fuel purchases by purchasing groceries at Lowes Foods.

The new Hickory location will embrace the most environmentally friendly practices including skylights for reduced lighting energy used and three living, breathing “green” walls. The living walls, provided by GSky Plant Systems, will house over 14,000 local and tropical plants that help the environment as well as provide a calming effect across the store. Lowes Foods has committed to using energy-saving refrigeration and heating systems, as well as using recycled materials throughout this store. This location will also have a wide variety of natural and organic products available.

New lower shelving units and simplified signage make this store easier for customers to shop. These features, along with color-coded sections will allow shoppers to see across the store and find what they need in the most efficient manner. The store will also host a new pizza bar and gourmet coffee roaster. Customers can have their selections prepared while they shop in as little as 15 minutes. The produce department will have Cut N’ Ready fresh vegetables that are sliced and prepared daily to provide the customer with only what they need for delicious meals and stir fry’s, reducing the amount of vegetables wasted by non-use.

The new fuel station offers customers an easy way to save money on their fuel purchases with the Lowes Foods Fuel Rewards program. For every $100 spent in groceries at Lowes Foods, customers receive $0.05 off per gallon of gas on their next fill up. There is no limit to the amount of Fuel Rewards that can be earned, and they can be “stacked” so that customers can save $0.10, $0.15, $0.20 or more per gallon. Offering Fuel Rewards is one of many money-saving opportunities that Lowes Foods provides for its customers.

There will be several events surrounding the new Hickory location, including appearances by NASCAR legend Junior Johnson as well as Matt Harris and Ramona Holloway from 107.9 The Link on grand opening day between 10:00 am and noon. Prizes will be given to all shoppers between 9:00 am and 6:00 pm this day as well, including free food, fresh rewards cash, and free Lowes Foods to Go shops. On Thursday, August 19th, $500.00 in gift cards will be given away to customers through a random draw, and on Saturday August 21st, Kicks 103.3 will visit the store between 1:00 pm and 3:00 pm. Kids of all ages are welcome to visit on Sunday August 22nd as the Radio Disney road crew visits the store for tons of interactive games and prizes between 1:00 pm and 3:00 pm.
