10 Tips for Building a Healthy Salad

  • Choose darkly colored greens such as spinach, kale and Romaine lettuce
  • Mix in colorful vegetables such as red cabbage, yellow Bell peppers and sugar snap peas
  • Use shredded green cabbage as your salad starter for a change
  • Make a shredded carrot, raisin and vanilla yogurt salad once in a while
  • Add fruit such as diced apples, orange sections, pineapple or kiwi chunks to your salad
  • Sprinkle the top of your salad with toasted almonds, walnuts or soy nuts
  • Make a salad of cut-up tomatoes, fennel and chopped fresh herbs
