10 Tips for Building a Healthy Salad
- Choose darkly colored greens such as spinach, kale and Romaine lettuce
- Mix in colorful vegetables such as red cabbage, yellow Bell peppers and sugar snap peas
- Use shredded green cabbage as your salad starter for a change
- Make a shredded carrot, raisin and vanilla yogurt salad once in a while
- Add fruit such as diced apples, orange sections, pineapple or kiwi chunks to your salad
- Sprinkle the top of your salad with toasted almonds, walnuts or soy nuts
- Make a salad of cut-up tomatoes, fennel and chopped fresh herbs
- Make a dinner salad by mixing up chunks of your favorite veggies, turkey and cheese
- Add a generous scoop of tuna to the top of a tossed salad and dress with fresh lemon juice
