10 Tips for Saving Money at the Supermarket
  1. Get organized by making a detailed shopping list. Use the weekly store ad to do so. On your list include meal foods, staple foods and beverages, and non-food, household necessities.
  2. Clip and use coupons only for unprocessed items that support a healthy lifestyle.
  3. Make fewer trips to the supermarket with a more organized strategy. This will save you gas money and food dollars.
  4. When shopping, buy what is on your list. If you find a great deal while shopping, then think carefully before adding it to your shopping basket.
  5. After careful thought, take advantage of a sale item by purchasing more than you need for one week, repackaging it at home if needed, dating and storing in the freezer or pantry. Refrigerated items are highly perishable so always check the sell by/use by date before stocking up.
  6. Buy the store brand for great quality and a lower price. A shopping basket full of Lowes Foods brand and Full Circle brand items is a very smart way to go.
  7. Adopt a home-cooking attitude and purchase basic foods for basic recipes.
  8. Be willing to wash and cut up your salad greens rather than buying them pre-washed and bagged.
  9. Be willing to cut up your fresh vegetables and fruits rather than buying them already cut up.
  10. Purchase fewer soft drinks and sugary kids’ drinks. Instead, keep it simple with low fat 1% milk, tap water or a big pitcher of brewed tea or herbal tea.
