Lowes Foods introduces the NuVal™ Nutritional Scoring System

Lowes Foods is pleased to provide nutrition information that is so simple it will make your day! The NuVal™ Nutritional Scoring System is a food scoring system that helps you see at a glance the nutritional value of the foods you buy. The NuVal™ System rates all foods and beverages on a scale of 1 to 100. The higher the NuVal™ Score, the better the overall nutrition. Scores are displayed directly on shelf tags and other signage throughout the store so you can make quick and easy nutritional comparisons between foods.

Navigating all of the nutritional in formation in a grocery store can be pretty complicated. That’s why NuVal™ Scores are on all kinds of  foods, from apples to cookies, from yogurt to noodles to tuna. Look for NuVal™ Scores on your store’s shelves, right next to the product price. Now you can compare overall nutrition the same way you compare value.

NuVal™ Scores are powered by a sophisticated scientific algorithm that takes into account more than 30 nutrient and nutrition factors, in addition to their effects on health outcomes. The Score considers factors like carbohydrates, proteins and fat, as well as the quality of the nutrients.

The algorithm behind NuVal™ Scores was developed by a team of recognized nutrition and medical experts, led by Dr. David Katz of the Yale- Griffin Prevention Research Center. NuVal™ was developed independently, without funding from food manufacturers or special interest groups.
